We are delighted to support Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs (BBW) in Aberdeenshire as one of our new partner charities.
Now in its 6th year, BBW provides free-of-charge access to a range of beach-friendly equipment – including wheelchairs, baby strollers and walking frames – enabling families and friends of all ages and abilities to spend time together at Balmedie Beach.
The all-terrain equipment is available for anyone to rent and is making a huge difference to the local community by promoting inclusivity and independence.
We’ll be helping the charity with financial donations as well as volunteering activities, and our first volunteering event is being planned for this summer.
BBW was originally nominated to the Kellas charity committee by Dave Wallace, our Senior Contracts Consultant, who has volunteered with them in the past.
Fiona Winstanley, BBW Co-ordinator, said “On behalf of everyone involved in our charity, from the volunteers who help run it to the families and individuals who benefit from our equipment, I’d like to say a massive thank you to Kellas for their generous donation. We very much look forward to welcoming them onto Balmedie Beach to get involved with our activities first-hand.”
Alan Murray, Kellas COO and and active member of our CSR committee, said “We typically support our partner charities for a period of around three years, in ways that have the biggest impact for the individual charity, whether that’s through monetary donations and/or hands-on support. The cost of a beach wheelchair is around £4000, and an electric model can be as much as £16,000. That’s why we’re pleased to work with Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs, as we know our support will help make a genuine difference to the great work they do for the local community.”
